Diagnoses

These are the scientific terms for what Ethan has. It's quite a list but I don't let these 'labels' define Ethan, they are there to get services and we are lucky and grateful that we live in a country who supports his needs. Plus it's nice to have a handy dandy list since I fill out a lot of forms and his medical history gets asked all the time.

Gastroschisis
We found out about this 16 weeks through my pregnancy on 5/13/2011, there was an elevated value of the protein AFP during the first round of blood work done. From the CDC website - Gastroschisis is a birth defect of the abdominal (belly) wall. The baby's intestines stick outside of the baby's body, through a hole beside the belly button. The hole can be small or large and sometimes other organs, such as the stomach and liver, can also stick outside of the baby's body.

Bilateral Esotropia
This is eye crossing and a type of strabismus. 11/15/2012

Asthma
Ethan had a really bad cough attack and strike 3 wheezing cough is considered asthma. I'm so glad he eventually outgrew this. 02/09/2013

Periventricular Leukomalacia (PVL)
Ethan had an MRI on 1/13/2012, we found out the results 4 days later that he has PVL which is a white matter brain injury. Here's more info on PVL: PVL 01/17/2012.

Diplegic Cerebral Palsy (CP)
This was a result of the PVL, his motor skills were affected by it. He has stiffness mostly impacting his lower body. He was diagnosed 6/13/2013.
